Chicago Pneumatic iPM Permanent Magnet Screw Air Compressor
A permanent magnet screw air compressor — Chicago Pneumatic calls it the iPM (interior permanent magnet) series — is the most energy-efficient compressed-air technology available. It combines three advances: the latest variable speed control, an IE4 Super Premium permanent-magnet motor, and an in-house designed screw element. Together they cut energy cost by up to 45% versus a traditional fixed speed compressor — noticeably more than a standard variable speed compressor, which saves around 30–35%.
Because energy is 70–80% of a compressor’s lifetime cost, and most plants have variable air demand, the iPM range is built to attack exactly that cost. The oil-cooled iPM motor runs at 96–97% efficiency in a direct 1:1 drive with no transmission loss, and an integrated inverter matches output precisely to demand.
