The Chicago Pneumatic CPZ Refrigerant Dryer uses a high-efficiency 3-in-1 aluminium heat exchanger to cool compressed air to its dew point, condense and drain moisture, and re-heat the dry air before it enters distribution pipework. The result: compressed air at a stable Pressure Dew Point (PDP) of 7–10°C — suitable for the vast majority of industrial applications.

Working Principle

How the CPZ Dryer Removes Moisture — 3-in-1 Heat Exchanger

Cool & Condense

Hot saturated compressed air enters the Air-to-Air heat exchanger, where it is pre-cooled. Then the Air-to-Refrigerant exchanger cools it to the dew point — water vapour condenses into liquid.

Collect & Drain

The Water Separator collects the condensed water from the cooled air flow. The Automatic Drain removes the liquid condensate — keeping the system free of accumulated water.

Re-heat & Deliver

The dried air is re-heated in the Air-to-Air heat exchanger before exiting. This prevents condensation on the factory's cold pipework — dry air delivered at near-ambient temperature.

3-in-1 Aluminium Heat Exchanger

The CPZ dryer’s 3-in-1 aluminium heat exchanger combines all three functions in a single compact unit — highly efficient and reliable. The Hot Gas Bypass valve regulates refrigerant flow to maintain a stable PDP and prevent condensate freezing.

Why does compressed air need to be dried?

A compressor that delivers 200 litres of air per second also supplies approximately 240 litres of water per day when working with air at 20°C. This moisture causes corrosion in pipework and tools, damages pneumatic valves and cylinders, contaminates products in food and pharmaceutical applications, and causes production interruptions. The CPZ Refrigerant Dryer removes this moisture before it reaches your factory's distribution pipework.

What Pressure Dew Point does the CPZ dryer achieve?

The CPZ dryer achieves a Pressure Dew Point (PDP) of 7–10°C. This corresponds to ISO 8573-1 Class 4–5 for water content — suitable for the vast majority of industrial compressed air applications including pharmaceutical instrument air, chemical process air, food packaging and pneumatic tools. For lower PDP requirements (pharmaceutical sterile air requiring Class 2 at -40°C PDP), an adsorption dryer is required instead of or in addition to the refrigerant dryer.

18 models from CPZ 30 (1,000 l/min / 35 CFM) to CPZ 2650 (75,000 l/min / 2,650 CFM). Models CPZ 30–870 operate on single phase 230V/50Hz. Models CPZ 1270–2650 require three phase 400V/50Hz. Maximum operating pressure: 13 bar for CPZ 30–870 and 10 bar for CPZ 1270–2650. The correct model is selected based on your compressor FAD, system pressure and ambient temperature, with correction factors applied.
