Cement / Bulker
Tier 1 – Highest PriorityHow Cement Tanker Unloading Works — and Why the Roots Blower Is the Critical Equipment
A cement tanker (also called a bulker) is a pressurised road tanker that carries 22–30 tonnes of cement powder in a sealed vessel. Unloading a cement tanker does not involve tipping or gravity discharge — the cement is conveyed pneumatically from the tanker to the receiving silo through a discharge pipe. This pneumatic conveying is powered by a Twin Lobe Roots Blower mounted either on the tanker itself or at the unloading point.
The Roots Blower creates a continuous flow of air at low pressure (0.3–0.8 bar) but high volume. This airflow enters the tanker through an inlet valve, fluidises the cement powder (mixing air with the cement to create a fluid-like mixture), and pushes the fluidised cement through the discharge pipe into the receiving silo. The entire operation takes 45–60 minutes for a fully loaded 25-tonne tanker when the correct blower is used.
RR Enterprise manufactures Twin Lobe Roots Blowers at our ISO 9001:2015 certified facility in GIDC Vapi and is the only local Roots Blower manufacturer in the Vapi–Silvassa belt. For cement plants, concrete batching plants, construction material suppliers and cement distributors in Vapi and across Gujarat, we provide the fastest supply, fastest service and the deepest local expertise in cement tanker blower applications.
How Cement Tanker Unloading Works — Step by Step
Blower Start
Roots Blower starts and builds to operating speed. Air pressure in tanker vessel begins to rise.
Fluidisation
Airflow enters the tanker through fluidising pads, mixing with cement powder to create a fluid-like suspension.
Conveying
Fluidised cement flows through the discharge valve and pipe, propelled by the differential pressure created by the blower.
Silo Fill
Cement enters the receiving silo via the inlet valve. Silo filter vent releases excess air. Blower stops when tanker is empty.
3 Problems That Are Unique to Cement Tanker Unloading — and Why They Are Expensive
These problems do not exist for pharmaceutical plants, textile mills or chemical factories. They are specific to cement tanker unloading and bulk pneumatic conveying.
Wrong Blower Size = Tanker Sits for 3 Hours Instead of 45 Minutes
The single most common and most expensive mistake in cement tanker unloading is selecting the wrong blower capacity for the tanker size, pipe diameter and pipe length. An undersized blower cannot maintain sufficient airflow to keep the cement in a fluidised state throughout the unloading cycle. As the blower struggles to maintain pressure, the cement partially de-fluidises, the discharge pipe flow slows, and the unloading time stretches from 45 minutes to 3–4 hours. In some cases with severely undersized blowers, the tanker never fully empties — the driver has to physically jerk the tanker or disconnect and reconnect the hose multiple times. Cement tanker demurrage charges (waiting time charges paid to the transport company) in Gujarat typically range from ₹1,000–3,000 per hour per tanker. A facility receiving 5 tankers per day with 2 extra hours of demurrage per tanker due to an undersized blower pays ₹10,000–30,000 per day in avoidable demurrage alone — ₹30–90 lakhs per year. Correct blower sizing based on tanker capacity, pipe diameter, pipe length and silo back-pressure is what prevents this.
Cement Dust Destroys an Incorrectly Specified Blower Within Months
Cement powder is fine, abrasive and corrosive. A Roots Blower used for cement tanker unloading operates in an environment where cement dust is always present — around the tanker discharge connection, in the air around the blower inlet, and potentially inside the blower itself if the inlet filtration is inadequate. An incorrectly specified blower without the correct inlet filter for cement dust will have cement particles entering the compression chamber, abrading the lobe tips against the housing walls, and destroying the internal clearances that create the blower’s pumping action within 3–6 months of operation. The result is a blower that has lost its pumping efficiency and delivers insufficient airflow for unloading — or one that has seized completely. Replacing the rotor set costs ₹1–3 lakhs. RR Enterprise specifies and supplies inlet filters rated specifically for cement dust environments at our Vapi GIDC facility, based on experience with cement tanker unloading applications across Gujarat.
No Local Manufacturer = 3–5 Days of Unloading Operations Stopped When the Blower Fails
When a cement tanker blower fails — whether from a seized bearing, a failed safety valve, a damaged rotor, or a motor burnout — the cement unloading operation stops completely. Tankers queue up at the plant gate, cement supply to the plant stops, and production that depends on cement supply is interrupted. If the blower was sourced from a manufacturer in another city or an imported unit, replacement parts or a replacement unit have a lead time of 3–5 working days minimum. During those 3–5 days, either the plant stops using cement (production loss), or it pays emergency freight and premium prices for cement supply from retail dealers. RR Enterprise is the only Roots Blower manufacturer in the Vapi–Silvassa belt. When a blower fails at a cement plant in Vapi, we can provide an emergency replacement unit from our Vapi GIDC facility on the same day in many cases, and carry out on-site repair of most blower failures within hours.

How RR Enterprise Solves Each of These Problems
RR Enterprise engineers size the Roots Blower based on your tanker capacity (in tonnes), discharge pipe diameter, pipe length from tanker to silo, and silo back-pressure. We calculate the required airflow (m³/min) and blower pressure rise to complete unloading in 45–60 minutes. No guesswork. Call +91 90999 72929 with your tanker and pipe specifications.
Every RR Enterprise Roots Blower for cement tanker unloading is supplied with an inlet filter specified for cement dust environments. The filter rating and housing design prevent cement particles from entering the blower compression chamber. Based on our experience with cement tanker applications across Gujarat, we know exactly what inlet filtration the blower needs.
As the only Roots Blower manufacturer in the Vapi–Silvassa belt, RR Enterprise provides emergency replacement units and on-site blower repair for cement plants in Vapi, Silvassa, Daman and across Gujarat. Same-day or next-day response for most blower failures, versus 3–5 days from other sources.
What Size Roots Blower Do You Need for Your Cement Tanker?
Blower sizing for cement tanker unloading depends on tanker capacity, discharge pipe diameter and pipe length. Here is a practical guide:
| Tanker Capacity | Pipe Diameter | Blower HP Range | Approx. Unloading Time | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10–15 tonnes | 100mm (4") | 15–25 HP | 30–45 minutes | Small tankers, short pipe runs |
| 20–25 tonnes | 100–125mm (4"–5") | 25–40 HP | 45–60 minutes | Standard cement tanker |
| 25–30 tonnes | 125–150mm (5"–6") | 40–60 HP | 45–75 minutes | Large bulker, silo height >10m |
| Multiple tanker simultaneous | 150mm+ (6"+) | 60–100 HP | Depends on setup | Consult RR Enterprise engineers |
These are general guidelines. Actual sizing depends on pipe length, bends, silo back-pressure and cement type. Call +91 90999 72929 with your tanker capacity, pipe size and silo height for a free sizing calculation from RR Enterprise engineers.

Roots Blower Applications in Cement and Bulk Handling
RR Enterprise Roots Blowers are used across a wide range of bulk material handling applications beyond cement tanker unloading.
Cement Tanker (Bulker) Unloading
The primary application. Roots Blower creates high volume airflow at 0.3–0.8 bar to fluidise and convey cement powder from the pressurised tanker vessel through the discharge pipe to the receiving silo. Blower must be sized for tanker capacity, pipe diameter, pipe length and silo height. Incorrect sizing results in extended unloading times and demurrage charges. Complete unloading time for a 25-tonne tanker with correctly sized blower: 45–60 minutes.
Fly Ash Pneumatic Conveying
Fly ash from thermal power plants and industrial boilers is conveyed pneumatically from collection hoppers to storage silos or to cement blending units. Fly ash is finer and lighter than cement, requiring a Roots Blower with higher airflow (m³/min) relative to pressure. RR Enterprise Roots Blowers are used for fly ash conveying at power plants and cement blending facilities across Gujarat. Special attention to inlet filtration is required for fly ash, which is even finer than cement.
Lime Powder and Calcium Carbonate
Lime powder (calcium oxide), calcium carbonate and calcium hydroxide are handled pneumatically in chemical plants, water treatment facilities and construction material plants. These materials behave similarly to cement in pneumatic conveying and use the same Roots Blower technology. RR Enterprise supplies Roots Blowers for lime powder and calcium carbonate conveying to chemical plants in Vapi GIDC and across Gujarat.
ETP Aeration at Cement Plants
Cement plants and ready-mix concrete facilities with effluent treatment plants (ETP) use Roots Blowers for biological aeration of the activated sludge basin. This is the same Roots Blower technology as used in chemical plant ETPs, supplied by RR Enterprise at the same quality and specification. ETP aeration blowers run continuously 24/7 and must be sized for the biological oxygen demand of the effluent.
Concrete Batching Plant Pneumatics
Ready-mix concrete batching plants use compressed air for operating weigh hopper gates, cement screw conveyor drive clutches, aggregate bin gates and mixer discharge doors. These pneumatic actuators operate at standard 6–8 bar. A CP screw compressor is the correct solution for batching plant utility pneumatics — not a Roots Blower. RR Enterprise can supply both: Roots Blower for any tanker-fed cement intake, and CP screw compressor for plant pneumatics.
Alumina and Bauxite Conveying
Alumina refineries and bauxite processing plants use pneumatic conveying for transporting alumina powder from calcination kilns to storage silos and from silos to loading facilities. Alumina is abrasive and requires robust Roots Blowers with wear-resistant internal clearances. RR Enterprise manufactures Roots Blowers for alumina and bauxite conveying with appropriately specified lobe materials and tolerances for abrasive duty.

Frequently Asked Questions — Air Compressor for Packaging Industry in Vapi
Questions from plant managers, purchase engineers and project heads at packaging manufacturers in Vapi, Silvassa and Daman.
PET bottle blowing requires 30–40 bar high pressure compressed air. A standard industrial screw compressor (7–13 bar) cannot provide this pressure regardless of its HP rating. The correct equipment is a high pressure booster compressor that takes your existing 7–10 bar compressed air and boosts it to 30–40 bar for the PET blowing machines. RR Enterprise manufactures High Pressure Air Compressors (up to 40 bar) at our ISO 9001:2015 certified Vapi GIDC facility. Call +91 90999 72929 for specifications and pricing.
